Wow, I’ve got some catching up to do…
So I sort of fell off the wagon after I had the site migration from hell occur. It seemed like everything that could have gone wrong, did go wrong. I haven’t had a second to do anything but work, and work, so my aggregator has been ignored and I’m just starting to catch up tonight.
Luckily a lot of my feeds are from Canadian sources, and since I got to witness the original version of the election in person I felt I could skip across most of those postings. Still a few things jumped out at me:
Chris Nolan points me to a flying car somewhere in Germany as well as an O’Reilly article indicating they are adopting the “Beta Book” concept. I personally was a big fan of the “Beta Book” idea when it was offered for Agile Web Development with Rails.
A discussion on re-branding “PR” as “brand communications” that includes my second favorite phrase in the entire world, “New Media”. For the record my first favorite phrase in the world is “Multimedia”, partly because I have a degree in “Applied Sciences Multimedia”, and partly because I just love saying it and quoting with my fingers as I do. I say let’s do it, PR has always seemed like a pretty silly label for what we do at CRICKET and I think “brand communications” is a much better fit. Now I just have to run it by the boss.
Seth Godin has an interesting take on why everyone seems to gang rush the airplane as soon as boarding begins. I’ll usually kick my feet up and try and be the last on board. The last place in the world I want to be is in an airplane seat.
Some genius graffiti/artwork from Montreal is over at spacing.ca
Singer.to points me to this incredible video of a fireworks factory on fire… I actually flinched while watching this, although I haven’t got a lot of sleep the last few days either.
Rails has been ported over to the OpenLazlo framework. I’ve personally been a little down on Flash lately because I feel my CSS/DOM/Javascript skills (mad as they might be) have suffered due to the attention I spent on the Adobe/Macromedia platform, but the OpenLazlo system has long been of interest to me. Definitely something I’ll be looking into deeper.
…and for the record, OpenLazlo is not tied to Flash for presentation, that is only how I familiar with it.
Joe Clark has dropped another installment of his very amusing critiques of social-housing for his Free city of Leslieville project. As someone who’s been eyeing up the area as a potential homestead, I really appreciate what Joe is trying to do on that site.
And finally, MyStickies RAWK!!! It took me a little work to get these to show up when I wanted them to, but what an incredible tool for note taking as you bounce from site to site. This is damn near a killer app and I will gladly pay a fee for it once the system in monitized.
.
I’ve been thought site migration hell too - you’ve got my sympathies, and congrats for coming out of it alive! Cheers!
