1000 Channels and there isn’t anything on!

Here is a sentence I never thought I would have to type.

There isn’t enough hockey on in Canada.

At least non-Canadian Olympic hockey.

I was trying to get a look at todays Team USA women’s hockey match against Finland which is being broadcast in the States on the USA network. Of course Rogers doesn’t carry USA, but I thought there might be a chance the game would air, I mean it’s Canada and it’s a hockey game so I flipped.

Despite what seemed like a dozen channels with Olympic coverage, and one with a french guy fixing furniture, I was unable to find anyone broadcasting the game. Now I fully realize if roles were reversed I wouldn’t have even the slightest chance of tuning in a Canadian event, but this is hockey and Canada! I can’t think of an event Americans would have interest in, maybe a shooting event, but those are in the summer games.

Team USA even has a bit of a local angle, at least for the Toronto area as team captain, and Minnesotan Krissy Wendell has recently signed with the NWHL’s Oakville Ice.

Luckily Wired points out that the highlights will be available on NBC Olympics for expatriate’s like myself. Unfortunately only highlights will be provided for team sports.

[ UPDATE: NBC is filtering content by IP Address, so I can’t even see the highlights and CBC is only playing Team Canada information. Doh! ]

I guess I’ll just have to wait for the gold-medal game. No hockey for me, back to work.
