DemoCamp 3.0 The Deutsch Rock and Roll High School Edition.
Just got back from DemoCamp 3.0 and I’m amazed at how much has changed from 1.0. It’s gone from 30 people huddled in a BubbleShare board room, to nearly 90 people huddled in the Tucows… hallway? While it was exciting to see the growth, it almost felt more like Dave Winer’s proposed HyperCamp. If I were smart I would say that’s a bad thing, hoping Dave would argue it and fast-track me to A-List staus, but frankly I like the idea.
The smaller scale of the first camp gives me a small pang of nostalgia, where meeting everyone in the room almost seemed possible. By contrast only the most expert of networkers could have rubbed elbows with most of the crowd that mobbed the Liberty Street Cafe afterward. Never the less, I think it was the highlight of the evening where I personally had conversations on:
- SlamCamp
- Agile development and advertising agencies
- The German educational system
- DemoCamp presentor Nuvvo’s competitive placement between industry leader Blackboard and open source competitor Moodle (Nuvvo vs. Moodle)
- Boxing Promotions
And to top it all off I met (very, very briefly) Corky Laing of Mountain who wrote “Mississippi Queen”, and has been covered by BTO, Molly Hatchet, Ted Nugent and Ozzy Osbourne. If that doesn’t mean you RAWK(!), I don’t know what does.
.
Agreed… smaller is better. I wonder what we can do about the setup to make it more intimate and valuable for all.
Perhaps multiple tracks… i dunno.
Drop me an email sometime… me and David have been talking lots about this item.
