Dinner with Shel Israel

I Just got back from a fantastic evening with Shel Israel, the co-author of Naked Conversations.

Shel’s speaking at the “Social Marketing” event being put on by AIMS Canada tomorrow today and Alec Saunders was good enough to organize the get together. It was an overwhelming success, with nearly 70 participants gathered to talk shop and make friends.

I’ve been familiar with Alec’s writing on the topic of Attention for some time now, and having heard what he and partner Howard Thaw are working on at iotum the hair is standing on my neck. Apparently I’m not the only one either, since they managed to win a DEMO God award, indicating they were the best of the best at the event. At about $50 a second for the right to present, I think they’ll get their money worth and you’ll see iotum start to cause a stir.

Shel turned out to be a pleasure to talk to and we soon discovered we shared a mutual aquaintance in PUSH Conference organizer Cecily Sommers. Sometimes I’m amazed at how small the world can be. By far the highlight of the night had to be my wife’s parting words to Shel “You can call me and talk dirty anytime”, which was far more innocent than it ended up sounding.

Jeremy Wright author of Blog Marketing was also in attendance and we had a great conversation on life (his, not mine) as a professional blogger. Jeremy has a nice account of meeting Shel for the first time, and narrowly avoiding the Mortal Combatesque battle that could have waged when these two “bloggers with books” came together in the same room.
